The short answer

Joy (withjoy.com) is a free wedding website and app with strong guest personalization, native iPhone and Android apps and a registry where guests can buy some gifts without leaving Joy. Forevermore is smaller and newer, works entirely in the browser, and puts its effort into the wedding day: a QR photo wall, an audio guestbook, song requests and polls, all free to use today.

If you want apps on both platforms and fine control over what each guest sees, Joy is very good at that. If you want the day-of extras without asking guests to install anything, Forevermore is worth a look.

  • Choose Joy if you want native apps for you and your guests, pages tailored to each guest or language, or gift checkout and hotel blocks in one place.
  • Choose Forevermore if you want guests joining in on the day without installing anything, free seating, budget and checklist tools, and a site that stays out of search by default.

You can look around a demo wedding first.

Where Joy is stronger

  • Apps on both platforms. Joy’s iPhone and Android apps give couples and guests the schedule, maps, photos and guestbook. Forevermore’s app is still in progress, and it will always be optional.
  • Personalization. Joy can show each guest only their own events, pages and RSVP questions, and can build pages for guests who speak different languages. Forevermore shows guests only the events they’re invited to on the RSVP form, but its pages are the same for everyone, and in English only.
  • Registry and travel. Guests can buy some gifts without leaving Joy, cash funds are built in, and Joy runs a free hotel room-block service for US and Canadian weddings. Forevermore links to your registries, doesn’t take payments, and hotel blocks are only planned.
  • Automatic RSVP deadline with a grace period, and texting for a one-time fee.

Where Forevermore is different

  • The wedding day, with no app. Guests scan one QR code and add photos to a live photo wall, leave a voice message, request songs, vote in polls and write to your time capsule, all in the phone’s browser.
  • Planning tools included. The seating chart, budget and checklist are free to use today, with no guest limits.
  • Privacy. Both services keep sites out of search engines by default. Forevermore doesn’t sell personal information, doesn’t share it for advertising and doesn’t show ads on wedding sites, as our privacy policy explains. If privacy matters to you, read each company’s privacy policy before you choose.

What Forevermore can’t do yet: there’s no app, no texting, no custom domain, no video uploads from guests and no built-in cash fund.

What things cost

Both are free to start. Joy’s paid extras include a custom domain (about $19.99 a year), Messaging Plus for texts, the seating chart, premium digital invitations and printed stationery. Joy doesn’t publish the prices of Messaging Plus or the seating chart. Card gifts to cash funds carry a 3.5% processing fee that the guest pays, plus a $1.70 fee each time you transfer money to your bank.

Forevermore is free to use today, with no paid upgrades.
